Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning, also commonly referred to as dermablading, is a treatment capable of reducing the appearance of acne scars, fine lines, wrinkles and various other skin blemishes. The treatment has a very short recovery time and is a good choice for patients seeking an improved complexion without undergoing a surgical procedure such as a facelift.

An added benefit of dermaplaning is that it allows topical treatments to reach deeper into the skin where they can have more of an impact on overall complexion. At Laser Aesthetics of Colorado, our Centennial dermaplaning patients find the treatment to be an important component in a complete facial rejuvenation.

Candidates for Dermaplaning

  • Patients with wrinkles on the face, especially around the eyes, nose or mouth
  • Patients seeking a more youthful appearance to their face without undergoing a surgical procedure
  • Patients with skin irregularities such as acne scars, brown spots or blotchiness on their face

About Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning is far less invasive than a traditional facelift procedure, and for many patients the results are more than enough to reach their goal of having a more youthful appearance. The treatment is more intensive than some chemical peels and microdermabrasion, but the recovery period is still very reasonable. Our Centennial dermaplaning patients are able to return to their normal daily activities within 5-8 days. Possible side effects include skin irritation or scarring, a change in skin pigmentation, and sensitivity to the sun following treatment.

How Dermaplaning is Performed

Dermaplaning is performed very similarly to dermabrasion, except with a different handheld device that has a different effect on the surface of the skin. Dermaplaning implements a device that resembles an electric razor equipped with very small blades that remove the uppermost layers of the skin. The treatment can be performed on specific skin blemishes or on a large area or even the entire face.

Generally, dermaplaning is the treatment preferred by patients with deeper scars or lines on the face than can be treated with dermabrasion. Our Centennial dermaplaning patients often choose to combine dermaplaning with other facial treatments for a complete facial rejuvenation.
